Yay, I finally had the chance to through Grant's NYC pictures, so here is another batch pics from our trip.  The first six are from our surf adventure to Rockaway Beach and the last six are from 2nd Annual Brooklyn Invitational Bike Show, an amazing custom motorcycle event! ....We were stoked to have these experiences on our trip....they are not  your typical New York tourist adventures.  :D
{Most of the photos are taken by Grant Ellis (expect for the while he was surfing and I was in charge)}

This week at the La Jolla Farmers Market I was fortunate enough to set my booth up next to the fabulous Shelly.  She is the creative, beautiful, and skilled jeweler behind ShelMade.com (she is also pictured below).   Here jewelry is amazing....It is jewelry that you will wear a lifetime. Shelly describes her pieces as sexy, classic and versatile, and I completely agree.  I'm commissioning her to make a custom necklace for my wedding! Yay. :D Check out more of her collections here.

Personal Project: Finding Balance

Riding the waves of creativity is an amazing feeling. I honestly feel like I have been cruising on one for two months now.  The thing is my house needs a good cleaning, so does my inbox, my dogs need more than one 20 min walk a day, Grant and I need to spend more quality time together.  .......All of this must have taken it's toll because today I am home sick.  My throat is swollen  and sore...which for me, is a tell-tale sign that I need to slow down. I need to recharge.

Here is the thing though, as soon as you put yourself and your work out there things start to happen.  Opportunities arise that only come from the risk of sharing your work with others. This weekend I was overwhelmed by the possibilities and directions I could take some of my ideas.  For example, Saturday I taught I private Photoshop + Illustrator lesson and had an absolute blast, I would love to do more one on one lessons. I would also love to help people develop custom graphics for their blogs.  Plus, I have a million ideas for laptop bags.  Basically,  I want to stay on this 'wave' of creativity and inspiration, but need to take shorter rides (how corny is that...ha.)

So in tribute to today's post, here is a picture I took this weekend of my planner and I. :)

Straight off her website and into this post, Mati Rose McDonough's work strikes accord with me.  I love to color and collage, and appreciate when artists loosen up enough to draw and paint like a child...so I feel at home when I look at her work.  This San Francisco based artist, has an adorable shop on etsy, (that's how I found her)  it is filled with prints and original paintings ranging from $30 to $120, check it out!

What happened to Thursday??!!  The day flew by and I did not get a chance to make a post.  Here is my upcycle* idea for this week.  Coffee grounds!!  They add shine and natural color to your hair...give it a try. :D

On a separate note, I am working on creating more stylish designs, so you may notice a few changes on my site and in my posts.

If you know me, then you know Grant.  And one thing to understand about Grant is when you go on a non-surf trip with him...it can be a while before you see his photos.   Being a photo editor he is caught in a cycle of receiving, sending, and picking pics....so the last thing he wants to do after work is deal personal pictures from his non-work trips. :)  So this batch of pics are just some snapshots taken on our trip...but I am looking forward to sharing some of his rad pics!

I am getting back in my blog routine this week, so today I am  posting about a rad website called LookBook.  It is a fashion inspiration site where people from around the world post looks.  I've been stalking it for a couple months now.  It is definitely worth checking out...It gives you some confidence to wear that crazy outfit in your closet. :D

FYi...I thought I'd share a few things I am going to work on:
1) stepping up the design of my posts (hence the new design for today)
2) trying to find a consistent time of day to post (after work seems to be working best)
3) my grammar!  (I need a copy editor...I have too many spelling and grammar mistakes...sorry)

Personal Project: NYC

Grant & I got back last night from a 4-day trip to NYC...where we ate, shopped, and were truly inspired.  Strangely, when we woke up and went to work today, our lives were back to normal. It was as if our trip was a figment of the imagination.  We will have to remind ourselves often of how special the trip was...because it gave us a chance to interrupt our daily routine...to get our heads above water and really think...and to be inspired together.  I constantly thought about how much I love what I am doing with Moxie Shop and I came up tons of new ideas that I am look forward to exploring!!

This week I am going to work on making a NYC TRIP TIPS list (the first pic below is a peek of it in progress).  I have tons of pictures I want to share, but for now here are a few snapshots of an adventure I had in the Garment District (I bought new fabric, buttons, and zippers...yay) and of my rais cases in full effect!

Congrats Tessa you won!   Grant and I had an official drawing to make the decision. :D Shoot me and email (julierais@ gmail.com) and let me know which rais case you would like.  Chris and Coltin thanks for your comments, there will be another giveaway in a month or so, maybe you can get hooked up on the next round.  Even though only THREE people entered the giveaway, it was still exciting to log on and check my comments and stats throughout the day.

....On separate note, Grant & I are leaving for NYC tomorrow, we are stoked for to trip.  Grant has a series of portraits in the Nixon Art Mosh, Friday night!  I am so excited for him!!!  While in the Big Apple we are planning on taking it easy...we want to check out Bedford Ave., surf (yes...Grant is very exciting to surf there), catch up with AmyCakes (former student of mine), and eat lots of tasty food....not sure if I'll keep up with blogging while we are there.... :)
