Moxie Shop is on the Craft Fair Circuit

My good friend Kel and I set up shop at the Pannikin in Leucadia/Encinitas yesterday.  Kel is designing and selling home + holiday decor which is made in her home town of Durban, South Africa. And I had my Rais Cases for sale.   Below is a pic of our setup. :)  It was a great way to spend 'black Friday'...we met lots of interesting people, who appreciated what we are making.   Next Sunday we will be setting up shop together again, at the Artisans Alley Craft Fair in Coronado.

Personal Projects

The past 2-3 weeks, I needed another 'blog' break.   I've been spending some of that time designing a new bag, which will be ready very soon..YAY!  But mostly I've been chillin out with Grant and my dogs, spending time lying on the couch, going for walks, watching some reality tv, and surfing.

There is no set plan here, I am just listening to my gut and working hard when I feel engergized and inspired...and taking breaks when other parts of my life need more attention.   So the past few weeks I have been ticking away at a slower pace.
I've been thinking about the last 3 to 4 months, and I felt like I was running on octane.  I was powering, I can't believe all the stuff I was balancing!?  Wow.  It's fall/winter now, and I like to hibernate...so my instincts are telling me to take it down a notch.

I have always been one to embrace change.  For example, I love the variety my job gives me...each year I have new students, each day something new and unexpected happens in my classroom.  At home, I am always rearranging, everytime my family + friends come over they point out what's moved where. :)  With Moxie Shop, and specifically with my Rais Cases...they do not always turn out as I had planned, but this gives me an opportunity to adapt them to find a new way to make them work.   In general I have a flexible personality.  So, with that in mind I have been thinking about  evolving my blog/journal.  While the structure I started this summer worked for several months, it isn't working for me now.  I am too busy to keep to the same structure.  So for the next segment of my blog/journal, I am going to take  a more raw approach.  Honestly, I am not sure what that is going to look like yet.  I want to experiment and see what happens.   I want to have fun and enjoy the time I spend on what I am doing...

So for this post, I wanted to share images that  fascinate me.  Spending an hour exploring online,  I can get the same surge of inspiration  as I do when I visit NYC.  It's strange and amazing.  Finding images, artists, ideas, inventions online and having the ability to re-post the ones I feel inspired by is my method for this post.

Shops and Sites: Supermarkethq.com

While Etsy seems to be the supreme community-based online marketplace, I have found a few others that peek my interest. For example, Supermarkethq.com is one that is entirely curated, meaning you have to apply and be accepted to sell there.  I have found some really interesting shops on this site, such as Noemiah, who is  Montreal based designer who sells beautiful jewelry that features unique feathers.  If you have a moment, check it out.

Personal Project: Screen-printing at school

11/01/2010

In my class this week, I have arranged for Dale McLeod, a local screen-printing artist, to teach my students how to silk screen.   Today was lesson no. 1, STENCILING.  Each of my three class periods choose a different theme, period 1 picked mustaches,  period 2 choose the A-Z and 0-9, and period 3 picked fruit.  In each class students had about 45 minutes to sketch ideas and cut out their design. Then we arranged all the stencils onto a blank t-shirt, Dale put a large silk-screen on top of the shirt and the students did a full bleed mono-print. It was great! Tomorrow we are going to take the process one step further. Here are some pics from the mustache group. :)
