I'm in Aspen, Co right now! I'm exicited to post a little gallery of my trip in a day or two. But for now, here is a really cool indie shop to check out...it's called RedVelvetArt.com. They have a really great blog....I like to check out what these chicks are up to every few days. :D
Love Anthropologie...but hate their prices? Check out ShopRuche.com! Support small busniess owner and founder, Mai Olivo, and find great clothes at affordable prices. This shop has it all clothes, accessories, and inspirations. I went gaga over the cream and white background below and found a DIY Wonderland post about it on their blog. Hmm...could this be a something I incorporate into my wedding? 8tracks is "handcrafted internet radio"...and it's rad! It's a simple way for people to share and discover music online through, a short playlists containing at least 8 tracks. On 8tracks you can do two things: listen to a mix, or create a mix. I use it to listen to music and inevitably end up finding and following others who make compelling mixes. I like it because it's free, there are no commercials, and you find new bands all the time. Here are two mixes I'm digging right now. I met some rad people at the Holiday Bazaar last weekend. Zac Andrews and Dersu Rhodes, are couple guys I was chatting with, they have a great blog, called Witness-This.com. Their daily posts are an eclectic mix of music, people, and events. A site definitely worth bookmarking. While Etsy seems to be the supreme community-based online marketplace, I have found a few others that peek my interest. For example, Supermarkethq.com is one that is entirely curated, meaning you have to apply and be accepted to sell there. I have found some really interesting shops on this site, such as Noemiah, who is Montreal based designer who sells beautiful jewelry that features unique feathers. If you have a moment, check it out. P.S. I Made This, is a fashion DIY book one of my students showed me yesterday. Erica Domesek (the author) ambitiously tacks all kinds projects with a motto, 'I see it, I like it, I make it." So after work I did a quick hit at a bookshop to pick up my own copy. I sunk into the couch as I paged through the projects...loving it. Domesek also has a blog, psimadethis.com, where she posts more inspiration boards and projects....check it out. :) I've been looking at textiles quite a bit of lately, and I've found some amazing websites + resources...John Robshaw sits on the top of my list. His fabrics are hand dyed and his prints are done by artisans in India...read his story. He creates home and travel ware with his fabrics. His lines are super expensive but simply stunning. I love fonts, every year I teach a unit on typography in my class...so last night when I happened to find the website....What Type Are You?, I was stoked. It is a interactive site where a 'psychoanalyst' asks you four simple questions, and dependent on your responses he tells you want type of font you are. It is entertaining, interesting, and educational...give it a try. This week at the La Jolla Farmers Market I was fortunate enough to set my booth up next to the fabulous Shelly. She is the creative, beautiful, and skilled jeweler behind ShelMade.com (she is also pictured below). Here jewelry is amazing....It is jewelry that you will wear a lifetime. Shelly describes her pieces as sexy, classic and versatile, and I completely agree. I'm commissioning her to make a custom necklace for my wedding! Yay. :D Check out more of her collections here. {layout was designed and created by me, photos are from shelmade.com} School starts TODAY. :D I love the beginning of a new school year. The energy and excitement gets me jazzed up. I am teaching three sections of Digital Imaging, which is essentially a graphic design class where students learn how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. Today is Photoshop Lesson no.1 and we are going to do a continuous drawing across 36 computer screens! (I'll try & post some pics). Meanwhile here is a look at my classroom. | My Etsy
