The design of my laptop bags is evolving. Instead of loops sewn onto the back of each bag, I am now sewing a fabric loop + hardware (a 'D-ring') into the side seams. Here is a picture of one I made for my cousin. She is going to use one my my black straps with her bag. I put it in the mail yesterday, I can't wait for her to get it! :D
20 x 200: It's Art For Everyone, is a website that sells limited edition archival prints at affordable prices. 10 x 8" prints are $20 and are limited to an edition of 200. There is a variety of styles and subject matter...a little something for everyone....it's a great way to find unique work to hang in your home + apartment. My friend Kel and I a stumble on this site yesterday...good stuff! This school year is off to a really good start. My students are working on self-portraits based on specific color schemes. For this project, they are working in small groups...I am so stoked on their work. Here is a peek! If you know me, then you know Grant. And one thing to understand about Grant is when you go on a non-surf trip with him...it can be a while before you see his photos. Being a photo editor he is caught in a cycle of receiving, sending, and picking pics....so the last thing he wants to do after work is deal personal pictures from his non-work trips. :) So this batch of pics are just some snapshots taken on our trip...but I am looking forward to sharing some of his rad pics! Congrats Tessa you won! Grant and I had an official drawing to make the decision. :D Shoot me and email (julierais@ gmail.com) and let me know which rais case you would like. Chris and Coltin thanks for your comments, there will be another giveaway in a month or so, maybe you can get hooked up on the next round. Even though only THREE people entered the giveaway, it was still exciting to log on and check my comments and stats throughout the day. ....On separate note, Grant & I are leaving for NYC tomorrow, we are stoked for to trip. Grant has a series of portraits in the Nixon Art Mosh, Friday night! I am so excited for him!!! While in the Big Apple we are planning on taking it easy...we want to check out Bedford Ave., surf (yes...Grant is very exciting to surf there), catch up with AmyCakes (former student of mine), and eat lots of tasty food....not sure if I'll keep up with blogging while we are there.... :) Fall doesn't officially start until Sept. 22, but I've been boot hunting for the past month. I managed to score a $5 pair of camel color leather boots at a swap-meet. That deal evened out the cost of pair #2, which Grant encouraged me to buy last week at Steve Madden.com, which let's be honesty, didn't take too much convincing. With Fall around the corner and boots on my mind, I am reminded of the artist, Eleanor Antin. Antin is an artist from Solana Beach. Back in the 70's she created a beautiful series of photographs featuring 100 Army boots in different settings. Here are a few of my favorite images from the series. All you local yokels, come down to the La Jolla Farmers Market this SUNDAY from 9 to 1pm. There is amazing food, produce, music and artisans. I'll be proudly manning my booth, here are some display mock ups I've been working on. :) A week and a half ago, I committed myself to a countdown. I am counting down the number of days until I open 'moxie shop' on etsy. Each night for the past nine days I decoupaged papers onto a number, photographed it on a patterned background and posted it as my profile pic on Facebook. Such a simple task has kept me on track to opening 'moxie shop' as well as inspired a new piece of art (which involves the numbers!). I have been pouring myself into the process and I sit here happy, tired, drowsy, excited, hungry, nervous, and thrilled... ............................................................................................................................................................... {Below is a post I wrote a ahead of time for today, however I have to say that yesterday I was very fortunate. Around 6pm a drunk driver drove crashed through our fence, hit my car, then went through another part of the fence to drive away. I was home and saw nearly the whole thing happen. Typically my two dogs are out front, but not yesterday. No one was hurt. The driver was caught about a mile away. It was scary & bizarre series of events.} ............................................................................................................................................................... I love lace shirts & burnout tees. Two days ago I bought three lace racer-back tanks in all in different sizes and colors. A small in cream, a black in medium and a dirty pink in large. Nuts, uh?! I can hang them in my closet next to the longsleeve black lace shirt and lace cream dress that are already there. I think I like the texture & delicacy of the lace, the fact that it feels old, and can be worn easily. As for burnout tees, my small collective gets worn all the time. They are perfect under clothes, great for the gym, and look great with a pair of jeans. Here are some pics of both. At some point while I was on 100layercake I saw these cute guest totes they put together for different cities.
